Braiding hair

In the 19th Century most
women had long hair.
Waist-length dresses were
quite common. Cutting
women's hair was only
done as a necessity, and
it was considered a mark
of femininity. Women were
also very commonly seen
with long, bouncy curls
hanging down their backs.
The older women often
wore their hair braided
and coiled at the top of
their heads or put up into
a pompadour in front with
braids at the back. They
also wore French-style
twists pinned loosely along
the crown, and puffy hair
that was made into a bun
at the crown area.
