Spring, 1806
Dear Mr. Jefferson,
The journey was the Corps at its
best. The journey was America at its
best. Throughout this mission we
have had many tragedies, excitements,
truces, new friends, new enemies, and
mostly challenges. We have even lost a
member, Sergeant Floyd. We are proud
to have made it all the way across
America, with the help of many Indians,
including Sacagawea, and her original
tribe, the Shoshones. I am very proud
her to have had a little child, Pomp, at
the age of just fifteen. Lewis and I are
very privileged to have been given the
opportunity to explore this land and
make new friends.
