May 11-15, 1805
man on a horse, the Captain was sure
that the man had ran back to warn his
tribe of the newcomers. He decided he
needed to explain to someone, and fast.
He saw an old Shoshone woman and a
child, and the child ran off in fear. The
Captain had encouraged the old woman
to stand, but she was frail, and her legs
were wobbly. Apparently it took ages,
but the Captain managed to do enough
fancy hand-talk to explain that he meant
no harm. The Captain gave her some blue
beads, and she called the child back and
explained to her that it was all quite safe.
The captain painted their faces red as a
sign of peace, and the woman explained
again to the chief the good deeds he had
done.
Meeting the Shoshones
August 9, 1805
As soon as the Captain saw the
man who was observed as a
Shoshone, he ran up to him
holding the trinkets in the air.
He was shouting "Ta-ba-bone!
Ta-ba-bone!" which according
to Sacagawea was the Shoshone
word for 'White man'. He
stopped at a hundred paces,
then proceeded. "Ta-ba-bone!
Ta-ba-bone!" He pulled up his
sleeve and showed the man on
the horse his forearm which was
untanned. Suddenly, the man
turned and rode off.

Fall 1805
Here is the recipe for the Crispy Salmon. I have been unable to find the one to go with the ingredients, so you may have to gather some more groceries.
Crispy Salmon by Gordon Ramsay
Put boiled, new potatoes in a deep frying pan with 2 tbsp of olive oil
Once potatoes are warmed, crush them with a fork, but not too much
Add some chopped spring onions
Season lightly
Add white crab meat
Mix in
Glaze with vinaigrette (olive oil, lemon juice)
Sprinkle with chopped coriander
Place salmon fillet skin side up on board and slice with sharp knife, three quarters of the way through at quarter inch intervals
Add sprinkle of salt to the cracks, "if you will*" in salmon
Place gently into hot oil in pan skin side down, season on top
Turn over after 4-5 mins and cook the other side for same amount of time
serve w potatoes and baked halved cherry tomatoes
*A phrase I learned only today apparently meaning a way you could describe an object, often a term used by many Teachers such as Steveo or Domi
